The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Vice President Evangelos Venizelos have arranged to meet on Tuesday afternoon in order to determine the government’s stance against the troika representatives in the upcoming round of negotiations.
The Greek government is expected to adopt a “hard line” against the possibility of new across-the-board measures. To that end, the government will focus on its implementation of prior actions and will thus request that the implementation of everything agreed upon at the November Eurogroup of last year.
The two leaders will also have the opportunity to finalize the details of their updated cooperation agreement, after DIMAR departed from the coalition government in the summer.
The submarine debacle, which relates to a 2010 contract during which time Mr. Venizelos was Minister of National Defense, was recently brought up and caused a heated exchange of words between the Vice President and Minister of National Defense Dimitris Avramopoulos.
While the Prime Minister has tried to keep an equal distance from Venizelos and Avramopoulos on the matter, he will be forced to provide further political support for the PASOK leader when SYRIZA requests that an investigative committee examines the controversial submarine contract.
