The PM is preparing for a head on collision with SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, in an effort to weaken the Opposition. Mr. Samaras is expected to launch an attack on Mr. Tsipras in Parliament, on a number of issues, beginning with agriculture.
The strategy Mr. Samaras has been following involves “weakening” the opposition by pointing out contradictions and occasionally extreme statements by party members. The battle between the two has been brewing for a while now and seems inevitable.
Mr. Samaras will likely initiate the attacks, since polls suggest that the PM will prevail despite the problems his cabinet faces. By personally attacking SYRIZA and Mr. Tsipras, the hopes are that Mr. Samaras will increase his political momentum. This not without risks tough, as the government is often faced with the problems it creates and SYRIZA has began adopting “the art of opposition”, according to experienced political analysts.
Maximou Hall seems to be prepared for tonight’s clash, with Mr. Samaras intending to take advantage of recent SYRIZA member comments on all issues from terrorism and the events in Halkidiki, to opinions expressed by central SYRIZA party members G. Stathakis and I. Dragasakis. The PM will also emphasize the contradictory, according to his consultants, opinions Mr. Tsipras has expressed, regarding his trips to the USA and Germany.
