The nationwide federation of fuel station owners and dealers has issued a statement condemning the “unprecedented tax attack of the State against fuel and energy over the past years”, while pointing out that Greece has the highest fuel costs according to an internationally news agency’s report.
The federation continues to explain that “the only realistic policies, not just for the consumer, but for the State the increase its revenue, is to reduce taxes to realistic levels and abolish the VAT on special fuel consumption taxes. The government is required to highlight his issue and to negotiate as much as it can with the Troika in this direction, instead of supporting a failed policy that damages the country’s fiscal condition”.
The federation also reports that the high prices are due to the 23% VAT and the special consumption tax, meaning that every time the special tax increases, the consumer are double charged due to the VAT increase.
