“Lagarde List”: Angelopoulos testimony poses new questions

7.2.13

The testimony of the Minister of Finances’ former IT consultant G. Angelopoulos, who was ordered to investigate the original “Lagarde List” CD, suggests that here are differences with the second CD sent by French authorities.

Mr. Angelopoulos originally claimed that the CD he was given to investigate contained just one Excel file, but he has since stated he is unsure. When shown the second CD sent by the French, which contained five files (two Excel, two PDF and one Word file), he did not rule out “being the same file”.

When asked to demonstrate how he processed the file, in order to locate the top 20 account-holders, he did not manage to convince the Committee of his computer skills. When asked if he knows French, Mr. Angelopoulos replied he used Google Translate for terminology. This leads the Committee to believe that perhaps other people processed the list.

The former Minister’s protocol office employee N. Christidis revealed that when Mr. Papakonstantinou left the Ministry, he took the confidential ministerial protocol and two boxes of documents and data.

Current SDOE head S. Stasinopoulos also explained that his predecessor I. Diotis should have proceeded with an investigation of the list without awaiting a political instruction.
