The police in Patra were faced with the grim discovery yesterday in the Alepohori village of Achaia, near Halandritsa. A 31-year-old woman has been accused of killing her three-month old child and then hiding his body in her freezer.
The 31-year-old hid the baby in the freezer so that her 49-year-old husband would not notice. The 31-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday and will be taken to the prosecution in Patra to testify later in the day.
According to the police investigation, the 31-year-old’s mother and her partner left for a short trip on Saturday. The woman told the police that she struck her three-month-old baby with her hands while under the influence of drugs.
She explained how she realized that her child was dead hours later and hid the body in the freezer. When her husband returned on Tuesday, she placed the lifeless body in the crib and tried to trick him into believing the child died from natural causes.
When the father noticed that the body was frozen, the mother confessed her actions. The couple also has 16-month-old twins, which have been placed under the protection of social services.
