The European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs Pierre Moscovici will be visiting Athens on Monday. He will be received by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and will later meet with the Ministers of Economy and Finance.
In recent statements the European official has supported debt relief for Greece and in an interview for the Sunday edition of the Ethnos newspaper, he underlined that it is the right time to begin talks on debt relief.
“The Greeks have done so many sacrifices in the last years and finally the country is ready to turn page. The success story we are writing together means the return to normality but a normality with sustainable public economic policy and a competitive economy that will be able to create the job positions that the Greeks need so much” he noted in his interview.
After meeting with the Minister of Economy Dimitris Papadimitriou at 15:00, Mr. Moscovici will meet with the Minister of Finance Euclid Tsakalotos at 18:15. Earlier, at 17:00 he will visit Maximos Mansion, where he will be received by PM Tsipras. Later on in the evening he will deliver a speech at the Greek Economy Conference of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce.
On Tuesday the European officer will attend a business brunch with the president and members of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) and later he will meet with the Minister of Labor Efi Achtsioglou at 10:15. A press conference will later follow at the EU’s offices in Athens at 11:15.
Finally, Mr. Moscovici will also visit the 7th elementary school in Gerakas, which operates as a public-private partnership and is funded by the European Union via the Jessica program.
