The government has submitted its first bill in Parliament today, which will aim to tackle the serious humanitarian crisis that has developed in Greece since the onset of the financial crisis.
Amongst the bills measures are the provision of up to 300kwh per month for households under the poverty line, rent subsidies for 30,000 households and food coupons. According to the bill, the free electric power will also include reconnection to the grid and refers to cases where the power supply was cut off by the 31st of January 2015.
Regarding the rent subsidy, the government will prioritize households where there are children and in urban areas. The food coupons will be given via the existing structures or by developing new growth-orientated partnerships. In order to d so though, it is imperative to document needs and provided services, in order to better take advantage of available resources.
