The police announced that it arrested two garbage truck drivers today aged 47 and 50 years old respectively for attempting to dump dangerous materials a the Fyli landfill, while four more people are wanted.
Police officers from the department of environmental protection were called out on Monday to help out the employees at the landfill, where they located the two municipal garbage trucks containing medical waste.
The investigation revealed that the drivers were attempting to conceal garbage that came from two hospitals (one public and one private) and contained sensitive medical waste, such as syringes, gauzes and glass containers, which require special management.
The municipal garbage trucks have been seized, while the police are looking for four more individuals who are believed to be involved in the case.
