Three powerful explosions occurred at about 9.30am at a timber factory in Kalohori of Thessaloniki, injuring two men, the 52-year-old factory owner and a 44-year-old employee.
The shock from the explosions was felt in the extended surrounding area and damaged a nearby DEI transformer. A power company crew is working to restore sporadic power outages.
Ambulances rushed to the scene of the explosions as soon as possible, with the two injured men being taken to local hospital AHEPA for treatment.
The Fire Brigade was also called out to deal with a fire caused by the explosions. It has yet to determine the cause of the explosions, but it appears that they were caused during the refilling of gas canisters.
