The Deputy Minister of Finances Christos Staikouras has been examining a special report conducted by a work group set up to analyze the General Accounting Office’s files on the periods of the two World Wars. Mr. Staikouras explained in Parliament that the study has been classified “top secret”.
The announcement came in response to a question by ANEL MP Notis Marias, regarding the government’s efforts to collect reparations from Germany, regarding the forced occupation loan which has been estimated to be 162 billion euros before interest.
The study involved collecting, codifying, documenting, categorizing and preserving a great wealth of old and historical documents and other materials, detailing many aspects of the war periods. The entire operation took place at the General Accounting Office, where the study will be kept in 761 tomes. A copy has been relayed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
